Step 1: Take off your Mi Band

If you have worn your Mi Band on your wrist, you’ll need to take it off so that you can access the charging ports that are located underneath the band.

Step 2: Locate the Charging Ports

Step 2: Locate the Charging Ports

The Mi Band charging ports are located on the underside of the touch screen, right next to the heart monitor. See the image above.

Step 3: Connect the Charging Cable to the Charging Ports

Next, take the charging cable, that came with your Mi Band, and align the round end of the charging cable with the charging ports your located in step 2. The round end of the charging cable is magnetically charged and should snap and connect to the charging ports on the Mi Band.

Step 4: Connect the Charging Cable to USB Charger

Step 4: Connect the Charging Cable to USB Charger

Finally, connect the male USB-A end of the charging cable to a USB charger. If you don’t have a USB charger, you can also use your desktop/laptop or a power brick with a USB port to charge the Mi Band. After connecting the charging cable to the charger, the Mi Band will indicate on the touch screen that it’s charging and the level of the charge.

It takes about an hour to fully charge my Mi band. And I usually charge it when the charge gets to lower than 10%. Depending on your usage, your Mi Band should last about 2 weeks before you need to charge it again. Check out this post on how you can easily make you charge last longer on your Mi Band.

Mi band 5, doesn’t turn on fully and cannot be reset because of this.
    What can I do?

Never had that issue, is it paired with a phone?

Brand new mi band 5 which I charged for several hours and the display was on. I disconnected it I order to pair with my phone and the screen went blank and hasn’t switched back on, despite charging.

So, Mi Band 5 came out in 2020: 3 years ago.
That’s how long the band has been sitting on the shelf without being charged – the battery has degraded.
Since there are signs of “life,” I’d say to keep on trying to charge it, letting it rest, charging it again and see if that will wake up the battery.
In all honesty though, I would rather you return it and get a newer Mi Band.
